A bus reaches the destination in fixed time, running at a speed of 60 km/h. If the speed of the bus is reduced by 12 km/h, it takes 1 hour more to reach the destination. What was the distance covered by the bus?
As per the given question let us find what is given over here
Let the distance covered by the bus = X km
Therefore time taken by the bus to cover this X km distance with the speed of 60 km/hr is,
T₁ = distance/ speed = X/60 hr
Now the speed it reduced by 12 km/hr, so the new speed is
60-12 = 48km/hr
Now the time taken to cover the same distance X is,
T₂ = X/48 hr.
Given that this time is 1 hour more than the previous one,
i.e T₂ = T₁ + 1
X/48 = X/60 + 1
X/48 - X/60 = 1
X/240 = 1
X= 240km .
So, the distance covered by the bus is 240 km.
