Advantages of potentiometer over a voltmeter. Also state about its disadvantages

 Advantages of potentiometer

Accuracy of any potentiometer can be increased by increasing its length. The accuracy of  voltmeter cannot be increased beyond a certain limit.

The voltmeter is used only to measure the terminal potential difference whereas the potentiometer measures the small potential difference and the e.m.f. of the cell.

Internal resistance of a cell can be measured with potentiometer but it cannot be measured with voltmeter

A small potential difference can be measured accurately with the help of potentiometer . The resistance of voltmeter is not infinity to work as an ideal voltmeter.

Disadvantages of potentiometer

Voltmeter gives the direct reading while potentiometer does not give direct reading.

Voltmeter is portable but potentiometer is not portable.
